About me

From a tradition of tinkering

When I was young, my dad and I didn't go hunting, fishing or to sporting events. Instead, we fixed stuff. He was a farm boy and grew up in a place and an era when you just had to figure things out. While in high school in the 1940s, he and his dad even ran a business, "A & K Fit-It Shop."

My earliest memories include playing with an electrical outlet and getting shocked(!) Fortunately, I survived, and by age 12, my dad was asking me to change out a water heater by myself. This experience was further enhanced by working for my uncle, a residential contractor in college.

While I didn't go into the building trades, I continued to work on my own house and that of friends and neighbors during weekends. After leaving a 30-year career in product developer/management in 2018, I returned to one of my first loves -- fixing stuff!
